Road Town, February 6th, 2023 –
The British Virgin Islands Board of Directors conducted its first official familiarization tour at Port Purcell on Saturday 4th February. The visit afforded the Board the opportunity to view and learn first hand, the operation of the Cargo Port. In addition, members met with Port Staff and discussed current operational challenges, ideas, and opportunities for improving Port services for its stakeholders and the public.
The inspection also included a briefing of the ongoing repairs and rebuilding which are still required from damages that occurred from Hurricane Irma. Chairperson Roxane Ritter-Herbert noted that “the tour provided members with an insight into the various operating procedures at our main cargo port” she further indicated that “the tour was an eye opener from the standpoint of the significant repairs and rebuilding that are still outstanding from Hurricane Irma. Rehabilitating our Port facilities is a priority of this Board. Because our Ports play a significant role in the movement of passengers and goods, they are the gateways that connect us.”
The BVIPA Board of Directors will be conducting familiarization tours and inspections at all its facilities across the Territory in the coming weeks.
