The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority is seeking mature, and highly motivated persons to join our Team in the following position: IT Technician(6 months Assignment)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a associate’s degree, any technical certification in computing or electronics.
- Must have six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be verse in computer applications and software installation and setup.
- Must have good working knowledge of PC hardware and operating systems.
- Must be a quick learner.
- Must be a detail-oriented individual.
- Must have good human relations skills.
- Must have sound oral and written communications skills.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Assist with updating the organization’s internal Intranet and external websites.
- Assist with the daily troubleshooting of the port management system.
- Assist with the implementation of the document management system.
- Interviews user to collect information about problems and/or leads user through diagnostic procedures to determine source of error.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software issues.
- Logs and tracks issues and resolution using desk database and maintains history records and related problem documentation.
- Advise staff on appropriate action.
- Serve as liaison between staff and the technology department to resolve issues.
- Perform hardware and software installations and relocations.
- Set up, configure and install hardware and software according to standards set out by the department’s policies and procedures.
- Responsible for running new cabling in new or existing buildings for data and voice network, access control, cameras, cable TV, , etc.
- Termination, testing and troubleshooting of new and existing cabling.
- Installation of network outlets and labelling of cables, patch panels, network outlets, etc.
- To transport, assemble, troubleshoot, and disassemble audio/video equipment such as microphones, sound speakers, video screens, projectors, video monitors used for events and functions such as meetings, conventions, presentations, etc.
- Ensure the conference and training rooms are ready when scheduled.
- Troubleshoot electronics down to the component level to determine cause and remedy of any malfunction.
- Abide by safety and quality objectives of the organization.
SALARY:
